There are four options (A, B, C and D) ranging from a sound reminiscent of the spaceships from Hollywood movies to another similar to the turbine of an aircraft.

According to the comments posted so far it seems that there is no clear favorite. Having multiple sounds available on the car, instead of one, could be a solution.

Electric cars are much quieter than combustion and emit little noise at low speed, a feature that can be dangerous for pedestrians when driving in town. Solution: artificial sound, as does the Leaf Nissan and Toyota Prius plug-in (2013). Up to about 30 or 40 km / h. The car produces some noise, with a moderate level to avoid disturbing but that is sufficient to alert pedestrians. The higher the speed, the hum of electrical mechanical and tire tread already produce enough sound so that pedestrians are not surprised.

But these sounds can be used not only to avoid risks, but also for the enjoyment of the driver. The idea is to offer an alternative to the current sound of the engines, for better or for worse, is one of the basic sources of feeling with the car of any model. There will always be drivers who like a car sounds and others who prefer quiet.

Mercedes, for example, works for the electric supercar SLS E-Cell (525 hp) incorporate one or more synthetic sounds, the driver can activate at any time. One of the alternatives considered is a sound similar to the lightsabers in the Star Wars. The brand will market a small series of this model in 2013.

This car was taken to the test track in Boxberg Bosch, Germany. After turning on the runway of almost 3000 meters long by 36 hours and 12 minutes, the vehicle was stopped because he ran out the load. He had managed to go the not inconsiderable distance of 1631.5 kilometers without recharging the batteries.

Like being 36 hours without stopping is a daunting task, the test was carried out by four drivers took turns behind the wheel of time Schluckspecht to drive the vehicle at an average speed of 45 km / h, until the battery kit Lithium cobalt of 23 kWh out of power.

The electric model has a very aerodynamic body, with two electric motors mounted on each wheel, and the battery pack is divided into 14 to distribute the weight so ideal. The pilot is in the middle of the car and batteries surrounding it.

Not the first time that this vehicle is traveling considerable distances, and had previously been walking almost 700 km in city traffic in the South-African Solar Challenge.

These easy eco-friendly tips from Oprah not only lighten your footstep, they also make you feel better about your life. Living green affects your whole psyche.

There’s nothing better for your mind and soul than treading lightly on the planet. You’ll save money with some of these green tips, and your family’s physical and emotional health will also improve. When you apply these easy eco-friendly tips, you’ll see the psychologcial benefits of living green.

You can also harness positive energy by living green.

Eco-Friendly Tip #1 on Oprah: Eco-friendly Canvas Bags

When you’re deciding between paper and plastic at the grocery store, choose neither. Plastic takes 1,000 years to decompose and paper bags use 14 million trees a year. Instead, an easy eco-friendly tip is to use cloth grocery bags. Any cloth bag will do, but Oprah said that her website is selling organic cotton canvas bags made without pesticides.

Another easy eco-friendly tip on Oprah is to use an organic mesh bag for organic produce. One eco-friendly expert urged consumers to look at the amount of packaging in the grocery store. Since petroleum-based packaging isn’t good for the environment, buy items that use minimal packaging.

This easy eco-friendly tip may cost you a little more money: organic produce. It’s a green tip because it takes less energy to harvest and doesn’t use pesticides, so it’s healthier for the planet. But, organic produce isn’t necessarily a green money saving tip – though it could make you physically healthier.

Eco-Friendly Tip #2 on Oprah: Eco-Friendly Eating

Elizabeth Rogers wrote The Green Book, which contains dozens of easy eco-friendly tips that Oprah loved. In writing The Green Book she wanted to answer the question, “What are the easiest things we can do that make the biggest difference?”
One of Rogers’ green tips is using one less napkin a day because paper napkins make a huge difference. Give up one paper napkin a day, and you’ll save a billion pounds of paper waste in landfills a year. Using cloth napkins is one easy eco-friendly tip on Oprah that makes a huge difference.

Eco-Friendly Tip #3 on Oprah: Natural Cleaning Products

“Clean doesn’t have a smell,” says one environmentally friendly family. When your bathroom is clean, it shouldn’t smell like pine or lemon. Switch from toxic to non-toxic, natural cleaning products. Seventh Generation sells non-toxic products, which improve your family’s healthy by being less likely to cause asthma attacks.

Eco-Friendly Tip #4 on Oprah: Change Your Lightbubs

Most of the energy comes from coal-fired plants. A compact fluorescent light bulb is more energy-efficient and will save your money in the long run. CFL lightbulbs are energy smart; they’re more expensive, but they’ll last longer.

Eco-Friendly Tip #5 on Oprah: Daily Green Tips for Every Family

These easy eco-friendly tips are things you can do every day. The green tips come from the Squire family (a green family featured on the eco-friendly Oprah show).

Use the same cups over and over.

Don’t run the dishwasher unless it’s absolutely full.

Don’t throw clothing or shoes away, especially leather shoes.

Buy clothes at secondhand, consignment, or resale shops.

Put power strips on your tv to turn everything off when you go to bed or leave for the day. Vampire or standby power drains energy.

Another eco-friendly tip on Oprah is to go to a landfill and see where your garbage goes. It doesn’t just disappear! When you see a landfill in person, you’ll think twice about what you throw in the garbage and what you recycle. Recycle as much as you can. Make sure you check what types of plastic are recyclable in your city, through the Public Works or Sanitation Department.

If you are interested in living a more eco-friendly lifestyle, this is for you. We hope you will find WebEcoist to be pleasantly free of politics and we’ll never tell you to eat granola, hug a tree or vote for the Greens. You don’t even have to switch to tofu. The great thing about modern green living is that there is truly room for every lifestyle – from green consumers to chic eco mamas to tech-obsessed geeks. Modern green living is for people interested in living harder, better, faster, stronger (to paraphase Daft Punk). If that sounds like you, you’re in the right place. Do you view life as an ongoing learning experiment?

Then here’s what you need to do to go green:

1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

This classic mantra is still the most important one. Next to the crisis of climate change, resources (particularly petroleum, water and food) are getting ever more scarce. We must relearn the “three R’s” – and we’re not talking about grammar school. There are literally thousands of things you can do, large and small, to help the environment. Most of them benefit you in addition to helping the planet. Some are cheap, some are expensive, and many are free. But before you go and purchase carbon offsets or consider a hybrid, first just shift your mindset. Reuse, reduce, recycle – it’s fundamental for anyone who wants to go green.

Getting started: just begin observing your daily habits and purchases. Do you need to throw everything away? Is there something permanent you could use instead of that disposable version? Can you donate, compost, or trade that widget? Once you make the mental shift from a NIMBY (not in my backyard) approach that is wasteful and careless, you’ll be ready for higher-level greening. Ready for more? Read on for the overview. In future posts we’ll bring you detailed breakdowns of everything you need to go green – but this summary will help you know what to expect.

2. Transportation

We’re not only running out of accessible petroleum reserves – the global political climate isn’t exactly friendly to gas prices. If you didn’t worry about the environmental effects before, the cost of filling up the tank has just about everyone looking for ways to save green. Come back soon to find tips for mass transit that doesn’t suck, carpooling that doesn’t kill, and telecommuting that your boss actually goes for. You’ll also learn about the more extreme and wacky tips you might want to try, from hyper-miling to alternative modes of transport. It’ll be good for the planet and your wallet, too.

Getting started: Simply begin exploring your options. If you can purchase a hybrid or more fuel-efficient car, that’s great. Try asking your boss about telecommuting a few days a week, and take advantage of mass transit if you have access in your area.

3. Shopping

Purists may deride “eco products” as nothing more than greenwash or a new marketing opportunity, but consider:

We are consumers and that’s not going to change soon.

Some of the latest and best green innovations are coming from consumer-driven trends. Buying organic jeans is not going to save the planet, but green consumption is helping to “mainstream” green living. Besides, green these days is pretty cool. You won’t believe how hard you can geek out on all kinds of green tech, green gadgets, and green hacks. Think longer battery life. Think a water container that won’t give you cancer, soap that doesn’t dry your skin out and a safer toilet-scrubbing experience. And be sure to let us know what kind of consumables you’re interested in greening. Since many products can be made at home, we’ll also be sharing DIY money-saving tips for many necessities.

Getting started: look for fair trade, organic, and eco-friendly labels or certification on goods you buy. Choose local meat, dairy, and produce when you can. Try not to buy “fast fashion” and needless gadgets that are cheap but will soon fall apart. Invest in quality over quantity. Buy your furnishings and electronics used when you can. Read your favorite magazines and books online instead of choosing print versions. Avoid plastic when a sustainable alternative is available such as wood, metal, fiber or bioplastic.

4. Food

Green grub is not just tofu and organic carrots. Really. In future posts, you’ll learn about the foods you don’t have to buy organic and cheap ways to buy the ones you do. You’ll learn about food miles and whether local is really best. You’ll find out how you can be a green steak lover. Green food should be healthy, cheap, delicious and accessible – and it can be, so stay tuned.

Getting started: for now, start shopping at the farmers’ market for your veggies because they’ll be a lot cheaper and healthier and safer. Eat a vegetarian dinner one day a week. Cut back on the soda, fast food and other overly-packaged and processed junk. You don’t have to do it all at once – try going “100% whole food” one day a week to start.

5. Your Pad

The home is the easiest place to start greening. There are literally hundreds of relatively easy home hacks – many free and most inexpensive. (Note that we will be providing in-depth guides to you super DIY’ers out there who want to get extreme. Bookmark this page and check back in the future for updated links to new posts.)

Getting started: you can switch dead light bulbs with CFLs, buy a programmable thermostat, toughen up a little and adjust your heat and A/C by two degrees of comfort, buy a compost bucket, and give up disposables like paper plates and paper towels. You can also use eco-friendly detergent, carpet cleaner, soap, plant fertilizer, pet food…it goes on and on! Many of these things you can make yourself for pennies. Which helps to offset the cost of that LED plasma.

6. Lifestyle

This ties into Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, but goes a little deeper. Is your laundry green? What about your workplace? Are you greening your travel? What gifts can you give at holidays that aren’t going to hurt the environment (without annoying your friends and family)? Look for upcoing lifestyle guides that go beyond generic clichés and address green solutions for every kind of lifestyle. So you have an SUV and there’s no way you can trade it in for what they’re offering – no problem. You can still be green. Maybe you are addicted to the latest gadgets, or you’re a die-hard designer shoe girl. Maybe you refuse to give up your burgers. That’s O.K. – there is a green way of doing things for every lifestyle. No challenge is impossible to solve with creativity, investigation, and a little bit of humor. If you think that’s too ambitious, you’re probably not in the right place. But if you are excited by new, innovative ideas and solutions with a positive point of view, stick around.

Getting started: Get out a notebook and write down the following: how often you travel; how often you dine out; how many family members/dependents you have; how far you drive to work; where you shop for your food, clothing, household products and electronics. This will give you a pretty good idea of your lifestyle. You should also figure out your carbon footprint. Don’t worry; no changes to make yet. Simply take stock of how you live so you can make smart changes down the road.

7. Habits

This is a bit different from lifestyle; the lifestyles people lead – based on family size, location, profession and so on – are diverse. But habits are more about the daily actions we take, often without thinking. You will find helpful tips, hacks and tricks in the future to live a little greener without too much stress. Sane green living is the goal. Whether it is turning off your lights or saving water, check back weekly for new tips.

Getting started: like “reduce, reuse, recycle”, simply make it a goal to consciously think about your habits this week. Do you order take-out or do you shop at the farmers’ market and prep your veggies for fast meals during the week? Do you shop at stores that use sweat shop labor to produce their goods, or do you look for products that are either fair-trade certified or made in the U.S.A.? Do you buy heavily processed junk food on a regular basis or do you try to avoid it? What cleaning products are you using? Simply start thinking about your habits. There are so many habits where, with slight modification, you can quickly reduce your carbon footprint.

Of course, this is simply an overview of the areas where you “green up”. You might want to bookmark this post and come back for links to more in-depth articles in the future.

Below we propose 10 steps to do with children and to serve you as a starting point in this task. Each share “green” solves the problem that is generated if we do nothing about it.

Reduce the waste we produce: As important as recycling is to reduce the amount of waste generated. And although we think it is difficult, not impossible. For example, we can clean and reuse plastic bags, aluminum foil, or glass jars. The role we can place it in a pile and use it until you can write him again. In all cases, if we set aside a container for each residue, which is no longer going to use more, we recycle.

Every day tons of garbage generated. In Spain, each person generates 1.2 kg per day and is warning of the need to reduce this figure.

Make a poster with all the resources in the city for recycling: We need to identify and collect containers (electronic devices, batteries, toxic chemicals, clothing, furniture and toys collection). A poster can draw the streets or areas where they are, what represent there (pictured, with photos or magazine clippings) indicating what each one.

Many children and adults who do not know how and where to recycle, children can help them, leading to the school or the Town Hall poster.

• Create a room “green”: If we paint the walls a light color, the light will reflect better. The light bulbs or lamps placed in the corners that project more light to help save electricity. To save some degree of heat sufficient to shelter us better and put a blanket over the night without having to take the heat so strong throughout the night. In our study table can also create a tray to deposit the recycled paper that is not fully used before taking it to recycle.

Our room says a lot about us and reflect our attitude. Imagine if everyone in their rooms to do the same as you.

Carry cloth bags to buy: To make paper bags is necessary to cut trees and the plastic used oil. The bags are not always recycled and damage the environment. Some countries are already taking action to change these habits, so why not us forward and bring our cloth bags?

The cloth bags are nice, more resilient and do not harm the environment, the carrying in your car when you go shopping or take them home and bring them to run errands.

Save water: When you’re washing your hands, turn off the tap, you should not let the water run, if you’re not using. When you brush your teeth using a glass of water you are going to use. And above all remember to put a couple of bottles of 1 liter of water in the cistern to save water.

It is very important to have clean hands and brushing teeth after every meal, but not at the expense of spending a lot of water. Be aware of all the water you waste by letting it run while you brush and compare it with that you’ve collected in the glass. What there is much water that you used?

Shower instead of bathing, showering When we save half the water that if we bathe. Bathing is a luxury, so it is best to reserve as much once a month. And if you save, get more score!

The baths are relaxing and very warm is the water, but you can get a similar feeling more considerate to nature as is to tuck a blanket.

Save electricity: To save energy we can turn off the lights when leaving a room that will not go back, turn off the television when we see it and also switches the thieves before bed.

Most electricity is generated in power plants that release carbon residue in the air and used to generate coal and oil that are irreplaceable. With so little effort and believe it or not we will be up to 10% by reducing the consumption of our electricity bill thanks to these little drivers.

Look for leaks where air sneaks into the house: If the house is well insulated we can see that air enters through windows or doors. It is important to identify these points to insulate and save energy.

In households consume much electricity or gas to keep warm, but to no avail if we leak that we miss the heat. The Earth will thank you for having found and plugged.

Play with recycled materials to create toys from going to throw objects: Play a house or building a recycled cardboard is fun, not only because they can not imagine any situation, but because they can play to their environmental standards, set their containers colors on the walls and decorate with objects in the recycling bin in our house! Again, children learn that objects can have a second life.

Children’s imagination can give life to things we think are useless. Let these pieces in their hands and see what we can do!

The easiest and most effective way to help children to conserve the environment is to start from home. Turn off lights, save water, use low energy light bulbs, recycle and reuse things. The potential savings are very large and the more actions we take from all much better.

With these simple examples teach children habits necessary to live in our world today. The result of tomorrow will be because we do today and with patience and effort the children also learn. Do you? What else already doing to conserve nature?

Electric cars are making a major impact in the automotive industry. They are a step out of the box for an industry traditionally used to manufacturing petrol-engine cars. The rising prices of gasoline fuel plus the release of pollutants and greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere are a high price to pay for the sake of transporting people and goods everywhere. If only cars can run using clean and green electricity! Electric vehicles are the apparent solution.

What are Electric Cars?

Instead of gasoline, an electric transport uses electricity stored in plug-in battery packs for acceleration, speed and maneuverability. Another vehicle that similarly utilizes electricity for propulsion is still in experimental stages — the solar car. It pushes the envelope even further in car technology, using renewable green electricity from the sun for power. Yet another form of electric vehicle already running on the roads and streets of major cities is the hybrid car, which uses both gasoline and battery-stored electricity for propulsion.

An interesting fact about electric vehicles is that historically, they were already a far more popular mode of transport during the late 19th century until early 20th century — more than gasoline-powered cars! Until man tamed the combustion process, electricity propulsion offers more comfortable travel options than gasoline. When the internal combustion engine (ICE) technology improved the driving range and refueling speed of the gasoline car, it left the electric vehicle behind. When the petroleum sourcing and delivery mechanism became more and more established, and gasoline cars became faster and less costly to mass produce, the electricity-powered car eventually faded out of consumer markets and landscapes.

A Second — and Greener — Look at Electric Cars

The recent years saw electric vehicles coming into people’s awareness once again. The environmental impact of petrol cars, plus the scarcity and soaring prices of oil, urges people to turn to electricity-powered modes of transport. The latter is turning out to be a more eco-friendly and cheaper option than oil-fuelled cars.

The electric vehicle has a less complex engine system than a gasoline car, relying only on its battery pack to propel it onwards. However, the high cost of the battery packs is making the cost of acquiring an electricity-powered car very prohibitive at present. Research is underway to solve this, and together with governmental subsidies, consumers are becoming more and more receptive to purchasing electrics cars.

Electricity costs to charge an electric car battery is cheaper than gasoline prices, and their maintenance is simpler than gasoline cars. However, electric cars are only suitable for short-distance travel because of the limited supply of battery power. The infrastructures for battery re-supply or charging stations must be set up to improve the range of electric cars.

In terms of energy efficiency, electric cars are more efficient than gasoline cars. They do not consume energy while at rest, unlike the latter.

Green Electricity at the Bottom of it All

Electric cars produce no pollution, but they still use electricity stored in batteries for power. Conventional electricity comes from power grids that continue to emit greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere during electricity creation.

It all goes back to a clean and green electricity infrastructure. Electric cars must source from green electricity grids instead of traditional infrastructure. When traditional power generators adopt the use of renewable alternative sources of energy, such as solar, wind, geothermal or water energy, more green electricity will flow to the grid. This green electricity will then cater to the requirements of all electricity-consuming devices, including electric vehicles.

Another good news is that governments are also putting more investments in electric car development, encouraging research on green electricity for car power. Electric cars seem to be the only viable transport of choice for now, and they are the ones most likely to take us to greener roads in the future.

The 2011 Geneva Motor show revealed a number of new vehicles that will be hitting the streets in the coming months, and there are several promising models.

While fuel efficiency may have been a common factor a few years ago, the vehicles that were out for view at the show ranged from sports cars to range rovers and even luxury cars. It is apparent that the body of the car is no longer the limitation; and with some cars getting 150 mpg, there is no telling what the coming models will be capable of.

The first car that will be covered is the Nissan ESFLOW. This stylish sports car can seat 2 people and even has the ability to travel 150 miles on a single charge. Pair this mileage with the power to go from 0 to 60 in less than 5 seconds, and it is very easy to see why so many people have their eyes on this vehicle. Nissan has also designed the ZOE with Renault. The ZOE has a top speed of about 84 mph and can go from 0 to 60 in 8.1 seconds.

The Vauxhall Ampera also impressed at the Geneva Motor show with zero tailpipe emissions and the ability to be powered completely by electricity for 50 miles. After the battery has run out, the engine will switch to petrol, which will allow the car to continue driving for another 310 miles. The ability to seamlessly switch from electric to petrol while limiting emissions is sure to attract buyers.

The Range Rover Range_e is a city car that emits a tiny 89g/km of CO2, which can be translated into roughly 85 miles. It is the 1st 4WD Range Rover that can accomplish this feat, and has a number of impressive features that let the driver control the car exactly how they see fit.

Volvo showcased the V60 plug in has 285 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 62 in 6.9 seconds. The V60 is an all wheel-drive diesel hybrid, and also offers a driving range of 30 miles with zero emissions. Not to be outdone, the Peugeot 3008 Crossover is also a diesel hybrid, although it does not offer a plug in option like the Volvo.

BMW grabbed everyone’s attention with their Vision ConnectedDrive Roadster. Although the exact specs have not been released, this Roadster works to fuse the driver and car with the surrounding environment for best results. There was also a Mini Rocketman concept car that was revealed to the public for the first time. This small vehicle is capable of getting 94mpg and strives to combine fuel efficiency with comfort and drivability.

Have you ever experienced lightheadedness or dizzyness while driving your car? Was it also accompanied by shallow breathing as well as strange feeling in your throat? If all the answers are yes then you most probably have got carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by CO emissions from your car. Carbon monoxide is toxic to your body, that’s why you must check your vehicle condition regularly in order to make sure that there is no carbon monoxide leak in it. In addition to that, it will be better if you use CO gas detector to do the inspection of your vehicle conditions.

There are many types of gas detectors available in the market nowadays. Based on type of gases identified, gas detectors are able to detect toxic gases, such as CO, as well as flammable and combustible gases. Certain types of gas detectors also can spot oxygen depletion. Using gas detectors in your car is also possible because most of them are battery operated. The devices will give warnings through alarms and/or visible signals each time hazardous level of gas vapors is detected in your vehicle.

The use of gas detectors in your vehicle can also becoming handy as you switch to natural gas as your car’s fuel. Using natural gas as an alternative fuel for vehicles has long been considered as environmentally more responsible. Not only because it has no toxic emissions thus creating cleaner air, the use of natural gas also increase mileage, making your vehicle more fuel efficient. Besides, switching to natural gas vehicle will completely eliminate the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning in your car.

So what is the purpose of using gas detectors in this case? Some people still worry about the flammable and combustible nature of natural gas making them hesitate or unwilling to use natural gas vehicle. Most of them do concern about the risk of natural gas leakage that can cause explosion and fire. Even though current statistics have shown that natural gas fuel tank crack incidents are near to zero and negligible, the potential users of natural gas vehicle still need to be convinced. Most of them are still referring to cases of combustion due to natural gas leakage in housing installation, especially in the heating and kitchen equipments. That is why in order to convince more people on the safety of using natural gas vehicle, it is better to advice them to have gas detectors in their car so as to detect potential natural gas leakage threat, although such cases are very rare. As more people eventually use natural gas vehicle, not only it can significantly reduce the incidents of carbon monoxide poisoning, but it also can help to improve the quality of the world natural environment.

The cost of gas is slowly rising and many consumers want to get the most bang for their buck by driving an efficient car. Not only will an efficient car help you save on gas, it’s also much better for the environment. Here are a few of the most efficient cars available for sale and best of all, they are all priced under $25k and relatively affordable.

Honda Civic Hybrid

The Civic Hybrid is a car that is compact, stylish and yet very efficient; it achieves forty three miles per gallon on the highway. It is powered by both a four cylinder engine that works together with an electric motor. The electric motor works as a sort of “back up” to give an extra boost whenever required. A feature called idle-stop turns off the gasoline engine when not in use which helps you to conserve gasoline. The Civic Hybrid qualifies as an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission vehicle due to its low emissions and carries a 15 year/150k mile warranty on all emissions equipment. Pricing starts at around twenty four thousand dollars.

Fiesta Ford SFE

The Fiesta is a good looking and stylish car. However, if you choose to purchase the Super Fuel Economy package you get a vehicle that is extremely efficient. The Fiesta SFE hits the 40 mpg mark on the highway, rather impressive numbers for an auto using a traditional powertrain. It is powered by a V4 1.6 Liter engine with 119 horsepower. Ford’s Sync system is available which allows you to use your voice to make calls and control the audio of your music and switch between songs.

Toyota Prius

One of the most popular hybrids on the market is the Prius, manufactured by Japanese car maker Toyota. The engine that runs this car is a four cylinder 1.8 engine in addition to the electric motor that puts out 134 HP. There are three different driving modes the driver can select from; Eco, Power and EV. You save the most fuel using Eco mode but it will accelerate rather slow in this mode. The steering is electrically assisted and the brakes are quite strong even though the car uses regenerative braking. This means that when you brake the hybrid system uses that energy to recharge the battery. Pricing for the Prius starts at around the $22k range.

With the economy in a precarious state, it makes more sense than ever to drive a fuel efficient automobile. The cars above were selected for their overall efficiency and the best part is that they are all affordable and within reach for the average consumer.
